Lord Help Me

Have you ever been thrust into a leadership or place of authority unexpectedly? Were you ready to be in charge but was shocked to realize that it was too overwhelming? Here’s what God told Joshua when He made him leader of His chosen people.
God started out by telling Him to “Be strong and of good courage” (Joshua 1:6). This meant that he was to rely on God. In the verses prior to this one God had told Joshua that He had given him all the land that he would step on; no one would be able to defeat him and God would not fail him. These are promises that required Joshua to believe and trust God. He had to operate from a level of faith. Before him was a rich piece of land that was occupied by giants but God was telling him that this obstacle would not be a problem if he trusted God. Joshua now knew he did not have to say ‘help me’ . This is because God would be with him always.
‘Be not afraid, neither be dismayed’ (Joshua 1:9) was also part of the instruction God gave him. He was being cautioned to not let fear take control. Fear is the antithesis of faith. Fear would stop him from achieving all that God had said he was capable of. Fear is not of God. In short, God was telling him to mind his thoughts. Faith in God and not fear would give him victory.
One can be in authority in different areas such as government, family, school, and work. If you are in a place of leadership, trust God. He has put you there for a purpose. Line up your thoughts with His word. He has not “given you a spirit of fear but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). If your cry is “Lord, Help me”, here’s your answer: “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).
